hoofbeats! radio

all age, all interest - a horse talk show for closet enthusiast to full fledged professional

Who Are Our Listeners?

"I sometimes think hoofbeats! radio is by women, for women." says Logue, "because if you look at our contributor list and think about general demographics of non-racing horse people, then it stands to reason."
We suspect that about half our total listeners are horse people and half aren't -- although we may have more horsey listeners than we think and just hear more from the local listeners.
We've not measured through any formal ratings survey but have kept an informal tracking of the hundreds of call ins, e-mails, visits and community comments.

"We've given away a lot of prizes and thank-you-for-appearing gifts. And, almost every week I meet a person that exclaims "I've heard your show!" says Logue. "Sometimes they even make a topic request or interview suggestion... "

Our blog has had over 2500 unique visitors and our facebook group has more than 90 members.

Here's some sample feedback quotes.

More About Our Listeners?

8-10am Sunday mornings, on-line streams from CFRU and CFMU website, and:
a syndicated/simulcast broadcast radius with a population of more than 1,000,000

We started broadcasting from the University of Guelph, north to Fergus, east to Rockwood, west to Kitchener-Waterloo, and south to the 401. Now we also transmit from the tower at Mohawk College, reaching throughout Hamilton, Burlington, Ancaster, Dundas, parts of Stoney Creek and most of Oakville.

CFRU archives shows on their website for 30-45 days.

Campus/Community radio has a copyright policy enabling sharing with other not-for-profit broadcasters, so the show is also available to all NCRA stns.

What Sets us Apart?
NCRA, CFRU, CFMU staff, board and listeners have helped to shape hoofbeats! radio’s growth by generously providing feedback. Horsepeople have really directed the show by sending us news, reports, comments and making appearances!

We have interviewed Olympians, Canadian and International. We are supported by Equine Guelph. The Ontario Harness Horse Association has made repeated appearances, as have members/directors of The Ontario Equestrian Federation. We’ve even been in conversation with musicians and CBC Radio personalities!

Our founder was 2X nominated for the EC Media of the Year award, and we were entered 3x for the National Campus/Community Radio Association Awards.
